The Johannesburg High Court came to a virtual standstill yesterday, prompting complaints from prisoners.
Thirty-eight-year old Mongezi Samual Jingxela of Meadowlands, who has been accused of 261 sexual offences, was especially bitter. He has been on trial since late in January, having pleaded not guilty on November 7, 2006.
Jigxela’s trial has been postponed repeatedly due to the unavailability of an interpreter. The latest delay is until June 14.
Jingxela’s representative, Advocate Harold Knopp, complained that his client had been waking up at 3am on court days for nothing as his five-month trial is now at a standstill.
