IT HAS been a rough road for Jub Jub. Born Molemo Maarohanye on June 29, 1980, he is the son of the controversial "Angel of Soweto", Jackey Maarohanye.
Jackey was praised the world over for rehabilitating and reviving tormented youths at her Ithuteng Trust School in Soweto, with its widely hailed 100 percent matric pass rate.
The school received backing from Oprah Winfrey and Bill and Hillary Clinton during a class trip to the US in 2001. However, in 2006, several former pupils revealed that their tragic stories had been fabricated by Jackey.
"We went there (the US)... her son and me. She actually made her own son lie in New York and say he was an orphan," said a former pupil in a Carte Blanche exposé in 2006.
In 2008, Jub Jub was further embarrassed after Fifa rubbished claims that his song Ke Nako was the official 2010 anthem.
Instead, the world soccer body said he had been hired to sing the song only at the unveiling of the official mascot, Zakumi.
Then, earlier this year, he invited further criticism when he dropped out of Survivor South Africa after only a few days, claiming his genitals had fallen victim to a septic rash.
Jub Jub declared his member to be more important than his teammates, or his chosen charity - which the Saturday Star revealed last month to be none other than his mother's old school, Ithuteng Trust.
When visited, the school was found to be "defunct" and "nothing more than a shell".
Jub Jub claimed it was still operating, but from a secret location.
Last year, the rapper, whose hits include an acclaimed reworking of a hymn, reportedly dumped fiancée Amanda du Pont for Afro Pop singer Kelly Khumalo, who is heavily pregnant - apparently with his child.
Noluthando Maleka, an actress in the Yizo Yizo 1 series, was Jub Jub's childhood sweetheart. According to sources, she is now in a relationship with accused speedster Themba Tshabalala and pregnant with his baby.
