The public servants’ strike could prompt some psychiatric patients to turn psychotic.
According to the DA’s Gauteng health spokesman, Jack Bloom, about 100 booked psychiatric patients at the Hillbrow Community Health Centre have stayed away for the past two weeks after facing threats and intimidation from “union-linked” people.
Bloom, who made the discovery during a visit to the clinic yesterday morning, said “The danger is that some might turn psychotic if they miss out on their medication for too long.
“We are suffering enormous damage to our health system,” Bloom said.
Provincial health department spokesman Zanele Mngadi told The Citizen
that there were security measures in place at the clinic, including police deployment, to ensure the safety of staff and patients during the strike.
